Questions About Book Club
What is cms book club?
The CMS Book Club is a Reading Club that is meant for students who enjoy and love reading for fun. The Book club may explore writing for those readers who wish to include their creative side in writing. Typically, Book club members can't wait until the next book comes out in a series they may be reading or are simply interested in exploring different reads. Although the CMS Book Club is not an AR Club, most books read in the club do have AR quizzes and points.
Can anyone join?
All students in grades 6th - 8th can join the CMS Book Club at the beginning of the school year and new year. We encourage students to listen to announcements and pay attention to flyers when initial membership begins. There is a deadline to join and usually it is in the last week of August and the last week of January. If a student transfers to CMS from another campus or district and wants to participate in the club, there is an exception for joining passed the deadline.
Where do you meet?
Book Club meetings are held in the library during lunch times A, B & C w/Mr. Brito every Wednesday, unless it is cancelled or postponed for another day.
are there club rules?
Yes, there are Book Club rules for all members participating. The key to having a safe and fun book club is organization and rules to abide by; this makes the club fair for all students.
what activities are involved in the club?
Reading is the essential component of the book club. Activities vary, but do involve; reading books independently or a book as a group and discussing the genre, theme, plot and story; book talks with the group; playing a genre or other form of literacy game, using technology with books to create book trailers, possibly creating a story using writing skills to create a short story book and so much more. Another fond activity the book club always participates in is helping with the set-up of the Scholastic Book Fair in the Fall and Spring. Other activities may include fundraising for future club purchases or possible educational field trips.
